Day 1–2: Colombo & Negombo — Your Gateway to Sri Lanka
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport and transfer to Negombo, a laid-back coastal city just 15 minutes from the airport. Spend your first evening settling in at a beachfront hotel, sampling fresh seafood at one of the local restaurants, and visiting the famous Negombo Fish Market at dawn.
On Day 2, take a half-day tour of Colombo, including Gangaramaya Temple, Galle Face Green, and Pettah Market. Colombo has transformed in recent years into a vibrant, modern capital with excellent restaurants and a thriving street food scene.

Day 3–4: Sigiriya & the Cultural Triangle
Rise early for the drive northeast to Sigiriya (approximately 4 hours). En route, stop at the magnificent Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with over 150 Buddha statues and stunning ceiling paintings dating back to the 1st century BC.
On Day 4, climb the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress at sunrise before the crowds arrive. The 1,200 ancient steps lead to the ruins of a 5th-century palace, with panoramic views across the jungle canopy. In the afternoon, explore the lesser-known but equally impressive Pidurangala Rock for a perfect sunset vantage point overlooking Sigiriya.

Day 5: Kandy — The Cultural Capital
Travel south to Kandy, the last royal capital of Sri Lanka, set around a picturesque lake. Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Sri Lanka's most important Buddhist site, which houses a relic of the Buddha's tooth.
Explore the vibrant Kandy Market, take a stroll around Kandy Lake, and in the evening attend a traditional Kandyan Dance performance. If you're a tea enthusiast, a detour to a nearby tea estate is well worth it.

Day 6–7: Ella & the Hill Country
Board the famous Kandy to Ella train — widely regarded as one of the most scenic railway journeys in the world. The route winds through emerald tea plantations, misty mountains, and dramatic viaducts including the iconic Nine Arch Bridge.
In Ella, hike to Little Adam's Peak for stunning panoramic views, visit the Ravana Falls, and explore local tea factories. The Hill Country's cool climate is a refreshing contrast to the coastal heat.

Day 8: Yala National Park — Safari Adventure
Depart Ella early for the drive to Yala National Park, Sri Lanka's most famous wildlife reserve and one of the best places in the world to spot leopards in the wild. A half-day jeep safari will also reveal elephants, crocodiles, wild boar, and an extraordinary variety of birdlife.
Continue to Tissamaharama or the south coast for the evening.

Day 9: Mirissa & the South Coast
Head to Mirissa, Sri Lanka's most popular beach destination, known for its crescent-shaped bay and laid-back surf culture. Between November and April, Mirissa is also one of the best places in the world for whale watching — blue whales and sperm whales are regularly spotted just offshore.
Spend the day swimming, snorkelling, or simply relaxing on the beach. For dinner, head to one of the beachfront seafood restaurants for the freshest catch of the day.

Day 10: Galle — Colonial Heritage & Farewell
On your final day, drive to Galle, a beautifully preserved colonial-era fort town on the southwestern tip of the island. Walk the ramparts of the 16th-century Galle Fort (UNESCO World Heritage), browse the boutique shops and art galleries, and enjoy a farewell lunch at one of the fort's rooftop restaurants.
From Galle, transfer to the airport (approximately 2.5 hours) for your departure flight.
Practical Tips for 2026
- Visa: Sri Lanka offers an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) for most nationalities. Apply online before arrival.
- Best time: The west and south coasts are best from December to April; the east coast from May to September.
- Currency: Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). Cards are widely accepted in hotels and restaurants; carry cash for markets and tuk-tuks.
