The Two Monsoon Seasons
Yala Monsoon (May–September): Brings rain to the south and west coasts. The east coast enjoys dry, sunny weather during this period.
Maha Monsoon (October–January): Brings rain to the north and east. The south and west coasts are at their best.

December–March: Peak season for the south and west coasts. Perfect beach weather, whale watching in Mirissa, and ideal conditions for the Cultural Triangle.
April–May: Shoulder season with lower prices. The island transitions between monsoons — expect occasional rain but fewer crowds.
June–September: The east coast shines. Trincomalee and Arugam Bay offer excellent surfing and diving.
October–November: The inter-monsoon period brings island-wide rain, but also the lowest prices and dramatic, moody landscapes.
